Burren Discovery Trail

The newly developed 95km Burren Discovery Trail in conjunction with Failte Ireland guides visitors through the Burren Lowlands in Co. Galway and the spectacular Burren Highlands in Co. Clare with an abundance of attractions,  stunning scenery, things to do and a range of wonderful towns and villages to explore along the way.  The Burren Discovery Trail has been designed to to bring unique stories, tales and folklore of the Burren Lowlands and Highlands to life and to encourage visitors and tourists to the area to soak up the sights, history and hospitality.

Each viewing point along the Burren Discovery trail features a doorway interpreting the Dolman, a signature image of The Burren known worldwide and constructed of the same Corten Steel as the Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points. Each viewing point also includes a storyboard which highlights all the important information you as a visitor to the area needs to know and highlights the unique stories and flora of the local area and of course includes follow on steps to help you explore the discovery route even further.

Things to See in The Burren Lowlands

The Burren Lowlands is full to the brim with an array of interesting attractions to see and enjoy and all located close to us here at Lady Gregory Hotel in Gort.  Hop in the car, visit Coole Park and stroll around Ireland’s most spectacular nature reserve covering approximately 400 hectares, enjoy refreshments in Coole Tea Rooms before going back in time at Kiltartan Gregory Museum and learning about Lady Gregory, visit Thoor Ballylee and tour the home of one of Ireland’s finest poets. Dunguaire Castle is also a must visit in a picturesque location on the shores of Galway Bay and a great choice for those perfect pictures followed by a stroll on the beautiful Kinvara beach to take in the fresh sea,  why not stop into the magical Burren Nature Sanctuary in Cloonasee or head to Kilmacduagh Cathedral Churches And Round Tower just 5km southwest of Gort town.
