Traught Beach is located in the sheltered Galway Bay just 25 minutes from us here at Lady Gregory Hotel, Leisure Club & Beauty Rooms. This gently sloping sandy beach is an ideal spot for families. There is a lifeguard service during the summer months which means Traught beach is particularly safe for bathing.

Traught Beach is located in a rural agricultural landscape of small fields and hedgerows. The beach and car park face west to the open Atlantic although views to the city of Galway are possible on a clear day to the north. The car park sits immediately adjacent to the beach and a toilet block sits midway along the car park. Bench seating is provided by the beach and a group of four picnic tables sit adjacent to the boundary retaining wall at the back of the car park.

This is a quiet rural beach which rarely gets busy, particularly now the campsite which backs onto the beach is closed. Traught beach lies within the Galway Bay Complex a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The variety and diversity of habitats present here are of great conservation value. It is an area particularly popular with birdwatchers who come here for the wildfowl. The beach also boasts a blue flag status making it a perfect location for swimming.
